615 H Street

Overview

615 H Street NW is a mixed-use residential and retail development in Washington, D.C.’s H Street corridor. The project replaces an existing restaurant with an 11-story plus penthouse apartment building, delivering 72 residential units above one level of below-grade construction.

Muller is serving as site development contractor to Donohoe Construction, performing selective demolition of the existing restaurant structure, full-site earthwork, and complete wet utility installation. These scopes collectively establish all of the building’s underground civil infrastructure before vertical construction begins above.

Muller’s utility scope includes storm, sanitary, and water systems for the new building. The water work involves new connections to the existing municipal waterline beneath H Street — providing both domestic water service and fire protection — coordinated with DC Water. Careful sequencing keeps each utility phase aligned with the construction schedule while protecting existing underground infrastructure along this dense urban corridor.

The project’s location on an active urban commercial street shapes its primary logistical challenges. Utility work in H Street’s public right-of-way requires traffic control across multiple phases, and below-grade excavation demands tight sequencing within a constrained footprint. Muller coordinates each phase with Donohoe Construction’s overall schedule to ensure all utility systems are installed, tested, and accepted before vertical construction advances.
