George Mason University’s Life Sciences & Engineering Building expanded science, engineering, and health education facilities at the university’s Manassas, Virginia, campus. Muller served as the site contractor to Skanska Construction, performing utilities work for the phased 132,000-GSF building and related renovations to Katherine Johnson Hall. Muller’s scope included earthwork, wet and dry utilities, concrete flatwork, and asphalt paving.
Site and utility work was sequenced with construction of the new building and renovations within the existing campus. Muller installed storm, sanitary, and water infrastructure, including ductile iron waterlines, fire hydrants, sanitary connections, and storm drainage components. Dry utility work included conduit for power, communications, security, and gas. The scope also included temporary construction access, erosion and sediment controls, sidewalks, accessible ramps, curb and gutter, asphalt patching, and final grading. Test pits and utility tie-ins were coordinated with Skanska’s phased construction plan as work areas became available.
